[ Her voice is low, as she forces herself to stay calm. ]

He sent me letters. Twenty-two of them.

[ She can't disguise her disgust. ]

What was written in them?

He asked me to forgive him. [ A scoff. ]

Wanted a second chance.

He's a broken record.

Did you answer him?

[ Without hesitation: ]

[ It's a slight relief and Kate believes her. ]

Has he sent you anymore?

He hasn't.

Did you confront him about it?

[ A beat. ]

[ It doesn't look like she has a choice. ]

[ Another pause. ]

[ It startles her, confusion painting her voice. ]

Why? Renee, if he's after you again we can take him down together.

[ Renee can't forget the blood. Her body. Cold, motionless on the floor.

Every day, she remembers. ]

[ She has a feeling it's about that.
